SWFF Innovator Claire Reid Wins 2017 Agripreneur of the Year

SWFF innovator Claire Reid, founder of Reel Gardening located in South Africa, won The Future Agro Challenge Global Championships and was designated as the 2017 Agripreneur of the Year. She competed against 50 startups from 50 countries for the title.

Reel Gardening has developed a unique paper strip pre-packaged with seeds and fertilizer that can be grown into a vegetable or herb garden in nearly any climate.

Honoring innovative technologies that address real problems

Held at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Future Agro Challenge, which is part of the Global Agripreneurs Summit, seeks to discover innovative and fundable food-ag technologies and agripreneurs that are disrupting the food supply chain and addressing real problems.

SWFF innovator, Gabriel Okello, operations director of Green Heat Uganda Ltd, won the first runner-up position in the challenge. Green Heat Uganda Ltd’s innovative slurry-separation system greatly reduces water demand and creates an easily managed fertilizer product, while increasing gas production.

Two SWFF Innovators – Si Technologies International B.V (India) and aQysta BV (Netherlands) – were among the five semi-finalists in the competition. View the video to learn more about the competition and hear from several SWFF innovators.
