During the 1st day of the Global Agriprenuers Summit, Securing Water for Food (SWFF) and Future Agro Challenge innovators attended a coaching camp where they competed in head-to-head battles in the pre-selection phase of the pitch competition.
Eight finalists from the first phase were selected to participate in the battle – the Future Agro Challenge highlight event – four of whom were SWFF innovators, including aQysta, Green Heat, Si Technology and Reel Gardening.
Each of the contestants met the challenge with poise and gave thought-provoking answers
Judged by five industry professionals, the battle was divided into three rounds, with two or three innovators going head-to-head against each other. Each round consisted of five questions on need, risk, impact, sustainability, and team. The finalists had 30 seconds to answer.
Judges responded with enthusiasm and curiosity, posing follow-up questions to each of the contenders. After three minutes of deliberation, the judges announced who would go to the final round of the battle.
Each of the contestants met the challenge with poise, giving thought-provoking answers and leaving the audience with a taste of a future full of hope and solutions. It was clear that these are people and ideas to believe in, and the judges had hard decisions to make with each round.
Although there was only one winner, it was clear that global collaboration and cooperation across the ag value chain is key in this competition.
SWFF is extremely proud to announce that SWFF innovator, Reel Gardening, claimed the title of Agripreneur of the Year 2017. Reel Gardening will receive custom, tailor-made support in growing their business of helping people grow their own food through biodegradable seed tape. SWFF is excited to see this impactful social enterprise continue to touch the lives of many. See the related article here.
